Get to know the Candidates!

Owen County Council President Andy Wood, a resident of Jefferson Township, has announced his candidacy for re-election to the Owen County Council At-Large on the May Republican primary ticket.
Wood is retired from the US Army. He is engaged to Stacy (Anderson)Sims and is the father of three children, Kelci (19), Katie (16), and Elias (10). Wood and his children make their home on a farm near Arney.
Since coming to the council over 5 years ago, Councilman Wood has served in most every council liaison position available. Wood also spent four years on the Owen County grants committee. He is currently secretary of the Owen County Redevelopment Commission. Further, Andy serves on the Local Emergency Planning Committee and Emergency Management Advisory Council.

A 1994 graduate of Owen Valley High School, Wood earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Resource Management from Oakland City University. Wood also holds a Master’s degree in Management (Project Management) and Masters of Business Administration from Colorado Technical University as well as a Masters of Interdisciplinary Studies (Executive Leadership and Education) from Liberty University.
Wood served in a variety of assignments during his professional military career, including Human Resource Officer, Rifle Company Commander, Executive Officer, Rifle Platoon Leader, as well as numerous enlisted positions. During this time Wood was responsible and accountable for government funds, property, and monetary accounts in excess of several million dollars.

Councilman Wood and his family attend Owen Valley Christian Fellowship. Additionally, Wood is a member of several organizations, including: American Legion Post 141 in Coal City, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1405 Spencer, IN (Life Member), Disabled American Veterans (Life Member), National Infantry Association (Life Member), and is an alumni member of the Wounded Warrior Project. Andy is also a past member of the Owen County Fair Board.
Wood’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (4), Army Commendation Medal (6), Army Achievement Medal (5), Iraq Campaign Medal, Indiana Commendation Medal and Global War on Terror Service Medal as well as several other service and achievement awards. Wood is also the recipient of the Order of St Maurice for his contributions to the United States Army Infantry.
